CSV Import Now Available in Atomic Assessments

CSV Import Now Available in Atomic Assessments

We’re pleased to introduce a new enhancement to Atomic Assessments, the ability to import questions in bulk using a CSV file. This update is designed to streamline the question creation process, making populating assessments with multiple items at once easier and faster.

Efficient Question Authoring with CSV Uploads

With the new CSV import functionality, instructors and content creators can now upload multiple questions directly into the Content Manager via a single CSV file. This significantly reduces the time required to build assessments and supports scalable content creation workflows.

Note: Currently, CSV import supports multiple choice question variations only. Support for additional question types will be added in future updates.

How to Upload a CSV File

To get started:

  1. Navigate to Atomic Assessments and open the Content Manager tab.
  2. Click the three-dot menu and select Add Content.
  3. Click Select File and choose your CSV file.
  4. Click Upload File to begin the import.
  5. Once the upload is complete, the new questions will appear under the Items tab.

Prevent Duplicate Content with Smart Overwrites

If your CSV file includes a Question ID column, Atomic Assessments will use it to identify and update existing questions during import. This allows you to revise and re-import content without creating duplicates, ensuring your assessment items remain up to date.

Handling Missing or Incomplete Data

The import process is designed to be flexible. Any columns not included in the CSV will simply be ignored — missing data will not interrupt the upload. Only the following columns are required for each question:

  • Question Text
  • Option A
  • Option B
  • Correct Answer

Please ensure that your CSV file is UTF-8 encoded to avoid formatting issues.
